2/19/05 Wow, it really has been a while since I've updated. Ah well. I'm not doing much of an update, just putting up some new pictures since it was pointed out to me that the ones posted were getting a bit dated. So there we are, new ones =). Some of them were taken by me holding the camera out as far as I could in front of me and pointing it in the general direction of my face. I'm always amused when those come out rather well. Anyways, I'm cutting into my valuable sleep time- so off to bed with me. Too bad the rain stopped, I love to listen to it. Ah well. Nighty night all! 11/14/04 Well if I wasn't busy enough a little while ago making clay things to vend and preparing for IEPPD, I've definitely done it now by starting a second job. I'm really bad about remembering to schedule time for sleeping. Ah well. I did do some posting to my dream section today. I have quite a few more I'm getting ready to post, some that are typed out and just a mess, and a few that are on tape (yes, I have a tape recorder by my bed just to record dreams. I know, I am a crazy girl =). Anyways, off to go clean! Sunday- the day of rest…and housework! 9/9/04 Been a busy girl lately. I've been getting ready to vend at IEPPD and working on the event website, along with finishing up my dad's football site. If you're interested in seeing what I'll be selling at the upcoming event, go check out the 'store' section. I'm busily making clay enhanced items when I'm not doing the school/work/webmistress thing. Anyways, other then the store, I have one other nifty new thing up tonight, the graphics section now links to all the pages that I have made (that I can remember at the moment) plus screen shots. Well, I'm really sleepy, and my writing ability is decreasing by the second, so I'll post more later. G'night all! |

Maeve 5/21/03 School's out, I've been enjoying a few nearly stress free days. I've been spending my net-time dealing with one of my other websites trying to get the domain name transferred and all. But I should be doing some new things around here soon. ~ Maeve 3/17/03 Yaay! Spring Break! Not that I really get a break, guh! Not only do I have to work, but I was given extra homework just for the occation. Bla. Here are some amusing links for the day =). Obnoxious but amusing: http://www.rathergood.com/moon_song/ The cheap way of viewing Star Wars…http://www.asciimation.co.nz/ I’ll update when I return home! ~Maeve 3/5/03 Grrrr…. Regardless of my current views on the whole war issue, what really annoys me are those how chose a stand with out researching or considering their reasons. So here I am sitting here rambling on when I am suppose to be in class. But alas, only two people were in class today. Why? Because everyone was at the peace rally. It's funny because here I am, a college student, traditionally the first to jump up and protest, but more then anything I am annoyed by my fellow students for their adherence to this tendency. So many "just-want-peace" but don't understand that's not how the world works. Sometimes, though again I'm not necessarily stating that this is one of those times, but sometimes war it necessary, in order to protect those things we most value. I asked one of my high school students who was going to a peace rally what her reasons where. She responded "because war is bad, people die!" I only shook my head and told her I understand her support of peace, but please, go research why we are even considering the war before you make such a strong decision. After all, how can you have an opinion if you don't even know what its about? Brightest Blessings All! Maeve |
3/5/04 Ok, so I feel like ranting. I really hate the fact we live in a society which still desperately clings to traditions harking from a time when women were considered possessions and men the only beings with the ability of rational thought. And the perhaps the most stark reminder of this (for me anyways) comes in the form of wedding invitations. Today I just received my brother's wedding invitation in the mail. I knew it was on the way, and was looking forward to admiring the invitations they picked out and seeing what colors to expect to see in their wedding. And so I happily pull the obvious-invitation-containing envelope from my mailbox and glanced down at the front…and froze. It was addressed to Mr. Tegmine Schuster Ms. Morgan McGrath
Now I know most people would not even stop to think about this,
and perhaps I'm a bit crazy, but there I stood, my blood pressure rising at a
surprising rate and heat running up the back of my neck. So its MY brother getting
married, who I grew up with and have known for all 24 years of my existence,
but it's my fiancée, who has only known my brother for the past few years
and has only met is bride-to-be once, whose name who appears first on the invitation.
So he gets first listing on the invitation not because of relationship
to the soon to be married couple (which is how invitations and even seating are
arranged) but by who has y-chromosome in their genetic makeup. I bet this wouldn't
happen if I were a lesbian. As matter of fact, that is looking more and
more appealing as time goes by…wonder if Tegmine would be will to have a sex change…. This same thing happened at my best friends wedding. Tegmine's name first, and its MY best friend. What if we were to break up after we received the invitation? I'd assume he would then not be coming and yet his name would still be there, above mine on the invitation. And its not as if I am angry at the people addressing the envelopes, but at the traditions place in modern times in general. Instead of determining these things by outmoded ideals of gender, here is how I think these should be decided. If you are inviting relatives, the person of closest blood relation should be the leading name on the invitation. So if I'm inviting my fathers sister and her husband, I would put my aunts name first, then my uncle's. If you are inviting friends who are a couple, the friend who has known you longer should be named first. If you are inviting two people who you have known for equal length, then you should place their names in alphabetical order. Anyways, I suppose that's enough rambling for one night. =) |
